So What is a MAC Code?
A MAC code means "Migration Access Codes", and is a code that allows you to change from one broadband provider to another. Most importantly the MAC code allows you to change your broadband provider without any interuptions in the broadband service. Think of a MAC code as a unique serial number or address that is used to identify your broadband connection within the telecoms local exchange. If you are thinking of switching broadband provider, then by providing them with a MAC code will make the whole process easier.
So Whats the benfit of a MAC code?
Well, simply put this means that you wont have to go without a broadband connection for up to weeks at a time, while you wait for your new broadband connection.
Where do I get My MAC Address From?
Contact your broadband provider customer services and simply request your MAC code. Ofcom have introduced new legislation so that all broadband ISPs must now provide customers with their MAC code when requested. The broadband provider may use the opportunity to try and get you to stay with them so be prepared.
Sometimes you'll Have to Wait
If youy dontget your broadband provider from an ADSL provider, i.e., a LLU or cable broadband connection then its highly likely that you wont be able to get a MAC code. In this case you'll have to cancel your current broadband service and sign up to another. This will mean you won’t be able to use your broadband service for a short while.
